The memorials aren't on walls — they're under your feet, forcing you to bow your head to read every name.

Small brass paving stones engraved with names, set into the pavement in front of houses throughout the Scheunenviertel and beyond — part of a nationwide project by Berlin-born artist Gunter Demnig honouring victims of the Nazi regime, usually Jewish residents deported from that address. You encounter them everywhere when you lower your gaze. Walking the streets slowly, looking down, is the only way to find them.
