A monumental socialist boulevard lined with Stalinist wedding-cake apartment towers, built in the early 1950s as the GDR's showpiece showcase of socialist living. Best explored on foot or by bicycle, the 2.3 km boulevard reveals gradually shifting architectural styles from grand Stalinist to more restrained 1960s modernism. Café Sybille at No. 72 holds a growing exhibit on the boulevard's history with period posters, toys and even a piece of Stalin's moustache.
