Built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi as a display of power after unifying Japan, this castle used the labour of 100,000 workers. The present structure is a 1931 concrete reconstruction, but it nonetheless looms dramatically over the surrounding park and moat, and the 8th-floor observation deck offers 360-degree views of the city. Inside, an excellent collection of art, armour, and daily implements tells the story of Hideyoshi and Osaka. The surrounding park is gorgeous during cherry blossom season.
