At the northern end of Ishigaki-jima's west coast, this long strip of sand lives up to its name with some of the island's finest sunsets over the East China Sea. A bit of offshore reef adds snorkelling potential, and the facilities — showers and toilets — make it practical for a half-day visit. It's a simpler, quieter alternative to the more famous Kabira Bay, and there's something particularly satisfying about watching the sun melt into the sea from a near-empty beach at Japan's subtropical frontier.
