Totally rebuilt following a fire in 2013, this is one of Tokyo's most venerable buckwheat noodle shops, in business since 1880. The new building faithfully recreates the original's warm wooden atmosphere. Come for classic handmade soba with accompaniments like ten-seiro (shrimp tempura) or kamo-nanban (slices of duck). The noodles have the nutty, slightly earthy flavour that only comes from decades of perfecting the same craft. History in every slurp.
