Local Secret — most visitors never find this place
One of Tokyo's oldest shrines hides in a quiet residential neighborhood with a miniature tunnel of vermilion torii gates that gives you a taste of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari without the crowds. The main sanctuary, built in 1706, is one of the few pre-Edo structures in Tokyo to survive intact. In late April and early May, the hillside azalea garden erupts into thousands of blooms in every shade of pink and red, drawing photography enthusiasts from across the city. The rest of the year, it's blissfully calm.
