A local would say...
A medieval crusader palace rebuilt by Mussolini for his own vacations — history has a sense of humour here.
The truly magnificent 14th-century fortress palace of the Knights of St John, dominating the Old Town of Rhodes. Severely damaged and then rebuilt by the Italians following old exterior plans but with a grandiose interior originally intended as Mussolini's holiday home. Only 24 of the 158 rooms are open, filled with antique furnishings, sculptures, frescoes and mosaic floors.
