Despite the name, this 'New Mosque' has stood at the foot of the Galata Bridge since 1665. Its monumental courtyard — always bustling with pigeon-feeding locals and Spice Bazaar shoppers — is one of Istanbul's most atmospheric public spaces. The interior's blue İznik tiles are excellent, and the royal loge (hünkâr kasrı) connecting the mosque to the adjacent market is an architectural curiosity.
