A local would say...
This beautiful Basque square was once a bullring — the numbered balconies where spectators once sat are still there, now framing some of the best pintxo bars in San Sebastián.
The handsome neoclassical heart of San Sebastián's old town, Plaza de la Constitución dates from 1813 and sits on the site of an even older square. The balconies of the fringing 19th-century buildings were once rented as seats for the bullring that occupied the square — the numbered balconies still visible today serve as an unusual reminder. Today the square is ringed with pintxo bars and restaurants humming with local life.
