One of our favourite places in the Ciutat Vella is El Call — the name of the medieval Jewish quarter that flourished here until a tragic pogrom in the 14th century. Today its narrow lanes hide surprising sites including an ancient synagogue, fragments of a women's bathhouse, and exquisite antiques. Its well-cellared wine bars, handmade leather goods and candlelit dining rooms make a fine evening destination.
