One of the best-preserved medieval citadels in Europe where people actually still live — not a reconstruction, just a town that never changed.
A UNESCO World Heritage medieval citadel perched on a hillock and fortified with a 14th-century wall to which 14 towers and five artillery bastions were later added. Today the citadel retains nine of its original towers, each named for the guild responsible for its defence. Cobbled lanes wind between merchants' houses, churches, and towers — a complete medieval townscape still lived in by residents.
