Biserica din Deal

Reached by climbing a covered wooden stairway of 175 steps from the citadel, the Church on the Hill dates from the 14th century and offers commanding views over the rooftops of Sighișoara and the surrounding countryside. The church contains original Gothic furnishings and the surrounding churchyard holds centuries of Saxon graves with weathered German inscriptions. The covered staircase itself, built in 1642, is one of the citadel's most atmospheric spaces.
