Europe's oldest mainland zoo (1838), laid out in the former Plantage gardens. Besides the animals, the grounds are packed with listed 19th-century buildings. The aquarium's cross-section of an Amsterdam canal — showing what lives beneath the murky water — is worth the visit alone.
