Eight hundred steps carved by Nabataean hands lead to a facade so big it swallows the Treasury whole.

Reached by 800 rock-cut steps from the city centre (about 45 minutes each way), Al-Deir is Petra's most monumental carved facade — larger than the Treasury and far less crowded. The clifftop views toward Jebel Haroun in the late afternoon are genuinely stunning, and the hike passes the Lion Triclinium and other carved tombs.
