This park is to northeast Tokyoites what Yoyogi is to the central city crew: a spacious, lush public backyard where anything is acceptable, as long as it doesn’t interfere with others. This gets slightly more tricky in the spring, though, when the park brims with families and tourists enjoying picnic parties under the iconic cherry blossoms. One of the best places to see the riot of pink, Ueno Park gets pretty lively well into the night, when the blossoms are beautifully illuminated.
