Behind a facade of bamboo screening by architect Kuma Kengo, this museum is a masterclass in blending old and new. The collection spans Japanese, Chinese, and Korean antiquities displayed in airy galleries with excellent English explanations. But the real revelation is behind the building: a steeply sloping strolling garden laced with stone paths, mossy sculptures, and teahouses hidden among the trees. It's hard to believe central Tokyo is just beyond the walls. A perfect palate cleanser after the sensory overload of Omotesando.
