Built on the site of the 1964 Olympics athletes' village.

On a sunny weekend, Yoyogi Park becomes Tokyo's most democratic gathering place. You'll find African drum circles next to rockabilly dancers, hula hoopers sharing shade with picnicking families, and the occasional busking saxophonist adding a jazz soundtrack to it all. The wide grassy lawns, rare in this space-starved city, are an invitation to sprawl out with a convenience-store bento and do absolutely nothing. In cherry-blossom season, some of the city's most spirited hanami parties unfold here, complete with barbecues and turntables.
