Opened in 1929 in the retro Shin-Sekai district, this is said to be the birthplace of kushikatsu — deep-fried skewers of meat, seafood, and vegetables with a savoury dipping sauce. For many Japanese, a pilgrimage here is a necessary part of any Osaka visit. The golden rule: no double-dipping in the communal sauce. The skewers arrive crispy and satisfying, and the old-school atmosphere of the original shop, complete with the grumpy Daruma mascot, is part of the charm.
