The largest of the Princes' Islands, where no cars are allowed and horse-drawn carriages (fayton) clatter along pine-scented lanes past ornate Victorian-era wooden mansions. Take the ferry from Kabataş, rent a bike or hire a fayton for the island tour, swim at one of the small beaches, and have lunch at Yücetepe Kır Gazinosu on the hilltop with views across the Sea of Marmara. Istanbul's favourite escape, 90 minutes from the chaos.
