Local Secret — most visitors never find this place
The 35m-tall burnt column erected by Constantine in 330 AD — once crowned with a statue of the emperor as Apollo. Scognamillo describes it as 'Istanbul's most mysterious monument' — legends say sacred relics from Troy, the nails of the True Cross, and crumbs from the loaves that fed the five thousand are sealed in its base. The column has survived fires, earthquakes, and 17 centuries of Istanbul chaos.
