Kalkan's public beach, right up against the yacht harbour, with a facility on the sand renting out umbrellas and sunbeds if you turn up empty-handed. It shelves in gently and never gets rough close to shore, which is what makes it the easy call with children. Where you put your towel decides the swim: down toward the breakwater and the marina the water sits almost flat, and the further you drift toward the open sea the more chop you pick up — most of all in the late afternoon, once the wind finds the bay.
