This church contains El Greco's most famous masterpiece — El entierro del conde de Orgaz (The Burial of the Count of Orgaz). When the count was buried in 1322, Sts Augustine and Stephen supposedly descended from heaven to attend the funeral. El Greco's depiction includes himself, his son and Cervantes among the crowd.
