For two weeks in May, Córdoba opens its private walled gardens to strangers — and what you find behind those whitewashed walls is worth the entire journey to Andalucía.

For two weeks in early May, many of Córdoba's beautiful private courtyards open for public viewing until 10pm nightly during this UNESCO-listed festival. The patios are filled with cascades of flowers — geraniums, roses, jasmine — in a competition for the best decorated courtyard in the city. This is one of the few times outsiders can walk through doorways that are otherwise permanently closed and discover the private garden world hidden behind Córdoba's whitewashed walls.
