Europe's last working forest steam train still hauls timber through the wild Vaser Valley, and passengers can ride the locomotive deep into the Carpathian forest on one of the continent's most extraordinary rail journeys. The narrow-gauge line clings to the valley's edge as forests close in on both sides, with bears sometimes visible drinking from the river. The journey ends at a meadow for a riverside lunch before the return trip.
