The grand boulevard square flanked by the National Theatre & Opera House and the Metropolitan Orthodox Cathedral. It was here that 100,000 people gathered on December 20, 1989 — the crowd that broke Ceaușescu's regime. A memorial to victims stands at the square's south end.
