Turkish prisoners dug a 30m well promised freedom — the inscription reads 'You have water but no heart'

Romania's most spectacular Gothic castle — a fairy-tale fortress with drawbridge, soaring towers, and a labyrinth of halls built by János Hunyadi in the 15th century. The Knights' Hall is enormous, the Bear Pit is appropriately grim, and the story of the well (dug 15m by Turkish prisoners who were promised freedom but weren't freed) is darkly Romanian.
