A local would say...
A 16th-century fresco that painted Persians in Turkish clothes so the congregation would know who the real enemy was.
Founded in 1530 and surrounded by defensive ramparts with a three-level brick-and-wood lookout tower, Humor Monastery features predominantly red-and-brown exterior frescoes from 1535 divided into narrative scenes. The tower's narrow upper stairways were designed so defending soldiers could kill attacking Turks one by one. One exterior fresco depicts the 626 AD siege of Constantinople, with the Persian-Avar besiegers dressed anachronistically in Turkish clothing — a clear political message to medieval parishioners.
