Romania's most beautiful church — built 1512-17 by Neagoe Basarab with spiralling towers inspired by Islamic minarets. Legend says the master builder Manole walled his wife alive in the walls to prevent them collapsing. Romania's royal family is buried here. The Moorish-Byzantine exterior tilework is astonishing.
