The vast 14th-century Gothic church dominating Piața Unirii — the neo-Gothic tower (1859) is the second tallest in Romania. The equestrian statue of Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus in front is one of Romania's most politically charged monuments, with competing Romanian and Hungarian plaques.
