Known as the 'Sun City' of the ancient world, Baalbek contains some of the largest and most perfectly preserved Roman temples ever built — the Temple of Jupiter (with columns 22m high), the exquisitely preserved Temple of Bacchus and the circular Temple of Venus. These temples were so large they outshone anything in Rome itself.
