One of the best-preserved Roman provincial cities in the world, Jerash is centered on a remarkable oval-shaped forum ringed by 56 Ionic columns. From the forum, the 800m colonnaded cardo maximus stretches north through the city past nymphaea, temples and theatres — still paved in the original Roman stone.
