On Yakushima's wild northwest coast, this beautiful beach is where sea turtles come to lay their eggs from May through July — one of the most important nesting sites in the North Pacific. Even outside turtle season, it's a stunning sweep of sand facing the East China Sea, and the sunsets here are extraordinary, with the sky igniting over dark volcanic rock. The beach feels remote and unspoiled, a world away from the forest trails that dominate most Yakushima itineraries. Accessible by Nagata-bound buses from Miyanoura.
