Koenji used to be the epicenter of Tokyo’s punk scene, and while it’s softened in recent years, Record Shop Base is still keeping the flame of anarchy alive (with the addition of warm customer service). Giving off the feel of an underground club with posters filling every inch of wall and ceiling space, this is the kind of place where you’ll find grungy musicians with a guitar strapped to their back digging out heavy metal records and CDs.
