Based on the notion that a coffee shop is more than just, well, a spot to get a caffeine fix, Mia Mia is a true community hub built for locals to meet and exchange ideas – with a great cup of coffee, of course. It’s owned and run by a charismatic Japanese-Australian couple, who transformed a dilapidated boutique clothing store into a stylish retro-café, without the pretension. Expect young, inner-city locals mingling with chatty grey-haired locals. Unbeknown to those who only drop by in the day and during the week, Mia Mia transforms from a café to a late-night bar on the weekends. It resembles something of an underground house party, when those in-the-know drop by, flick through the vinyl record collection and make a soundtrack request. Ask the staff for recommendations on the rotating selection of mostly Australian and Japanese wines and craft beers.
