Open since 1949, the menu still says 'chuka-soba' — this is the original blueprint for Tokyo-style ramen.

Open since 1949, Harukiya is one of Tokyo's oldest ramen shops — so old that the menu still says 'chuka-soba', the name for egg noodle soup when it was still an exotic import. The shop serves what has since come to be known as classic Tokyo-style ramen: a light chicken and fish stock seasoned with soy sauce. No frills, no gimmicks, just the taste that defined a city's ramen culture. The pilgrimage to Ogikubo is part of the experience.
