Walk five minutes past the famous bamboo and the crowds evaporate — monkeys sometimes join you on the trail.

A trail-laced park just upstream from Tōgetsu-kyō bridge and behind Tenryū-ji, offering a welcome escape from Arashiyama's tourist crowds. The best trail leads up to a lookout over the Katsura-gawa and into the Arashiyama mountains. Monkeys occasionally descend from the nearby hills to pick fruit. Especially beautiful during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons.
