The main antiques street of Kyoto, running through the Gion district and lined with dealers specializing in screens, ceramics, lacquerware, scrolls and other traditional Japanese objects. A slow stroll along Shinmonzen-dōri is as much a visual experience as a shopping trip — peering into the old shops reveals entire worlds of historical Japanese craft. One of the best places in the country to find serious antiques.
