A local would say...
Reachable only by boat and a jungle walk, this pristine crescent of white sand might be the most beautiful empty beach in Japan.
Reaching Ida-no-hama requires a boat from Shirahama to the isolated settlement of Funauki, then a ten-minute walk through jungle — and the effort is precisely what makes it extraordinary. You'll emerge from the trees onto a crescent of pristine white sand with water so clear it barely registers as liquid. There's virtually no one here. No facilities. Just you, the Iriomote jungle at your back, and one of the most beautiful beaches in Japan stretching out in both directions. It's the kind of place that makes you understand why people fall in love with remote islands.
