Two Shia Imams buried side by side under golden domes — this is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Islam that most Westerners have never heard of.
The most important mosque in Iraq after Karbala and Najaf, Kadhimain contains the shrines of two Shia Imams — Musa al-Kadhim and Mohammed al-Jawad. Its gold-coated domes and minarets, built in 1515 and subsequently enlarged, dominate the Kadhimiya neighborhood north of Baghdad, drawing pilgrims from across the Islamic world.
