Alexander the Great's father is buried here — the gold crown and bones are still inside the original tomb.
The most impressive archaeological site in northern Greece — the ancient Macedonian capital of Aigai, where the tomb of Philip II of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great) was discovered in 1977. The golden larnax containing Philip's bones and the astonishing burial treasures are displayed inside the burial mound itself, beneath dramatic lighting in near-darkness, creating one of the most powerful museum experiences in Greece.
