Ottoman-era stone paths still connect every village on this peninsula — the donkeys made them, the villagers maintain them.
The Pelion Peninsula is crisscrossed with old cobblestone donkey paths (kalderimia) that link lush mountain hamlets with seaside coves and fishing villages. These ancient trails thread through chestnut and apple orchards, past flower-draped villages and 18th-century churches with the finest frescoes on the peninsula. The route between Tsangarada and the coast, through Damouhari, is described as one of the most scenically spectacular in the Pelion.
