Built in 444 BC on a dramatic spur that plunges 65 metres into the sea, this Doric temple of 16 remaining columns was constructed of local marble and visible from miles away at sea. Ancient sailors knew they were nearly home when they saw it gleaming white from the waves. The views from the temple platform at sunset are considered among the finest in all of Greece.
