Crusader knights built an entire city here — the Street of the Knights is the most complete medieval street in Europe.
One of the finest surviving medieval cities in the world — the old walled town of Rhodes was built by the Knights of St John from the 14th century and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Street of the Knights (Ippoton) is the best-preserved medieval street in Europe, lined with the inns of the crusader order. The Turkish quarter (Hora), with its pink-domed Mosque of Süleyman, adds Ottoman layers to the Frankish and Byzantine fabric.
