Stefanos Crater

An active volcanic crater you can walk down into and stand beside bubbling, hissing sulphur vents at Stefanos. The entire island of Nisyros is a dormant volcano — the caldera floor is accessible via a path and above it, the Mycenaean-era acropolis of Paleokastro watches with 4th-century Cyclopean walls built from massive volcanic rock blocks.
