On May mornings, ghost soldiers reportedly march along this beach where 300 fighters died in 1828 — locals swear they've seen them.

One of Crete's best beaches lying just below the magnificent 14th-century Venetian fortress of Frangokastello. The Venetians built it to guard against pirates and rebellious Sfakians. On 17 May each year, the ghosts of Cretan fighters killed here by the Turks in 1828 are said to march again — the famous Drosoulites apparition.
