Two thousand years of conquest stacked on top of each other — every invader in Greek history left their mark on this one rock.
One of the finest natural fortifications in ancient Greece — a sheer limestone mass with layers of Roman, Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Turkish walls built over each other across two millennia. The ruins at the summit are a medley of Byzantine chapels, Turkish houses and mosques, crowned by the remains of the Temple of Aphrodite and tremendous panoramic views over the surrounding region.
