This bridge was already ancient when Columbus sailed — and it's still used by pedestrians crossing the Danube every day in Regensburg.
An incredible medieval feat of engineering completed in 1135, this fortified stone bridge over the Danube was for centuries the only crossing between Regensburg's northern and southern banks. The southern tower houses a small historical museum. The bridge offers magnificent views of the Gothic cathedral spires and the intact medieval skyline of one of Europe's best-preserved cities.
