A local would say...
Over 40,000 tons of pickled gherkins come from this watery wilderness every year — and yet it still feels like the world forgot to build roads here.
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of lush meadows, idyllic forest, and a vast web of gently meandering waterways about 80km southeast of Berlin. The area is famous for its shallow punt boats (Kähne), once the only way to get around. Canoes and kayaks can be hired for self-guided exploration of the labyrinthine channels.
