Freiburg Cathedral

Freiburg's magnificent Gothic cathedral, begun in 1200 and still surrounded by the city's bustling daily market square. The main portal is adorned with sculptural allegories including a wickedly carved Voluptuousness with snakes. The 116m-high filigreed spire — considered the most beautiful in the world by some — can be climbed for views of the Vosges Mountains.
