Dinkelsbühl's children's festival commemorates how local children saved the town from Swedish troops in 1632 — the walls they hid behind are still standing.
One of Germany's most perfectly preserved medieval towns on the Romantic Road, with complete encircling walls, moat, and towers all intact. The Weinmarkt square is lined with magnificent half-timbered buildings. Smaller and less touristed than Rothenburg, it retains a genuine village atmosphere.
